Confessions of an Avid Pet Lover

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been a pet lover. And while I love all pets, it’s dogs I’m obsessed with. I agree with Barbara Woodhouse that “There are no bad dogs.” I even think dogs are the best beings on the planet, bar none. Now that’s a pet lover! I’m such a pet lover that I’ve written an entire book about one of my dogs – Charlie, my wonderful Golden Retriever. The book is called Charlie: A Love Story, and you can click on the following link to find out more about it:

I think I was born a pet lover. When I was a little girl, I dreamed of having a dog. I asked my parents regularly for one. No luck – nothing I did or said would convince them. But I kept dreaming – of a dog that would be playful and my loyal companion, going everywhere with me. We would sit quietly together, and I would tell him/her my secrets. A very frustrated young pet lover, that’s what I was.

After I was on my own, I got my first dog. Since then, it’s been one dog after another – at one time four dogs at once. I read dog catalogues, dog health books, dog stories – even picture books about dogs. With Charlie: A Love Story, I have now contributed to this plethora. I say hello to pretty much every dog I see – I love their energy and the way they conduct themselves. I love to talk to people about their dogs. Everyone has a story. I even love watching people with their dogs. So often there’s a likeness between people and their dogs – in personality, appearance, or both.

I love how direct dogs are, how joyful, and how loving. They are truly our best friends. As I’m sure you can guess, I’m the most avid pet lover I know. Particularly when it comes to dogs. I even love the way dogs smell. I’m the Will Rogers of pet lovers – I’ve never met a dog I didn’t like, and I love most of them.

I loved writing about Charlie. He was that dog I’d dreamed about for so long.
